Guardian Travel Awards Presented In Tenerife

The Guardian has just staged its annual international travel awards for the first time on the Island from 27 September to 1st October. The event, organized by Turismo de Tenerife, was attended by one hundred leading travel industry professionals from the UK, including some of the most important in Europe like Prestige Holidays and Jet2. “Such a meeting is a huge promotional tool bringing together top executives from the leading companies in the British travel industry and giving us a unique chance to showcase the major attractions that the island offers as a holiday destination.” Turismo de Tenerife supplied the local transport and excursions, among other services. During their four day stay, attendees were treated to some of the outstanding attractions in Tenerife. Highlights of the programme of visits and activities organized by the island government’s public company include, for example, whale watching, golf, kayaking, jeep excursions to Mount Teide, wine tour in the north of Tenerife, Masca gorge excursion or visits to Santa Cruz and La Laguna. The main gala dinner was a black tie event held at the Finca Punta del Lomo, San Miguel de Abona, a working banana plantation. Apart from Carlos Alonso, attending dignitaries included, among others, the CEO of Turismo de Tenerife, Miguel Ángel Santos.
