Mi Coso Exhibition, Casa de la Aduana, Puerto de la Cruz

With so much history and culture surrounding Carnaval there’s a lot to cram in but this new exhibition has it all in miniature. Raman Avila from Puerto Rico has gathered together 1,000 iconic items that tell the story of Carnaval and they are gathered together at the historic Casa de la Aduana next to the Tourist Information office. Open daily from 10 am to 6 pm until 15 March.

The Tenerife Symphony Orchestra has a world wide reputation and that is shown by the quality of guest artists that regularly appear with them. For this concert Christian Lindberg takes over as conductor and Deanne Decker is guest soloist on trombone at the Auditorio de Tenerife Adan Martin.

Oscar Dominguez, Tenerife Painter’s Artistic Legacy At TEA Until 16 October

Oscar Dominguez – Una Existencia De Papel is a retrospective and a homage to La Laguna’s famous surreal painter whose bright vibrant interpretations made him a big name in the art world. Since his death in 1957 appreciation of his work has grown and it’s fitting that he should be a star attraction at TEA – Tenerife Espacio de Las Artes in Santa Cruz.

Award winning 2009 documentary showing life and art behind the scenes at the Ballet de La Opera de Paris. Directed by Frederick Wiseman it is shown in the original French with Spanish sub titles. Plans For Tenerife Trains North & South At Los Cristianos Until 19 February

It’s one of the biggest projects ever put forward in Tenerife so it’s vital that the north and south train link plans are seen by as many people as possible so they can give their feedback. Tren Metro Tenerife have a mobile roadshow which is currently at Los Cristianos outside the Cultural Centre until  Saturday 19 February from 10 am to 8 pm.

The plans for the routes, journey times, technical data and environmental studies are all on display and two members of staff will be able to offer advice and answer questions in several languages. Tenerife Museums, Accessable To All

The museums of Tenerife offer a wide range of cultural and educational opportunities and the Cabildo (government) is determined to make them accessable to all sections of the community regardless of limited mobility or communication. The budget to upgrade the main museums has now reached 110,000 euros and the changes can be seen at Museos de la Naturaleza y el Hombre, Historia y Antropología de Tenerife y el Museo de la Ciencia y el Cosmos.

Systems such as video sub titling, and audio aids mean that everyone can enjoy the interactive nature of many exhibits. Entrances and exits, and lifts also provide help for those who may need it. Funding has been made thanks to a collaboration with special needs groups ONCE and IMSERSO:

Cabildo Old Photos Exhibition, Until 18 February At Palicio Insular

In the entrance hall to the main Cabildo building next to Plaza de España you can view a selection of antique photos evoking memories of many of the people who have worked at this important government centre over the years. The main participants are Javier Sicilia Ramos (Cafetería); María del Carmen Puertas González (Servicio administrativo de Transporte); Simplicio Díaz (conductor); Miguel Tarquis Rodríguez y Pedro Atanasio Sánchez Rodríguez (IASS); Mercedes Delgado Rodríguez (Servicio administrativo de asesoramiento al Pleno y a las Comisiones Plenarias); Silvio Valladares Oramas (Jubilado) y José Ramón Atalaya (Servicio técnico de Conservación y Explotación de Carreteras).

The display is open Monday to Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturdays 8 am to 2 pm.
