When You’re Strange, TEA Film 8 To 10 April

The Doors were a classic American rock band of the early 1970′s and When You’re Strange was not only one of their many hit songs but is also the title of this award winning 2009 documentary. TEA – Tenerife Espacio de Las Artes in Santa Cruz is not just a conventional art gallery, it also has a small comfortable cinema showing foriegn language and special interest films.
This film is shown each day at 7 pm and 9.30 pm, entry 4 euros, in the original English with Spañish sub titles and featuring great songs like Break On Through, Come On Baby Light My Fire, and L.A Woman.
Veterans Water Polo Cup At T3, La Caleta, 25 to 27 March

The Spanish Open for veteran water polo players from around the world has come to Tenerife for the first time and takes place at Tenerife Top Training in La Caleta from 25 to 27 March. There are categories for over 40′s (12 teams) and over 50′s (6 teams) and players have arrived from teams like Duisbuirg in Germany, Esti Izmir in Turkey, Master Rio from Brazil, and the Barbarians from Great Britain.
As T3 has 2 pools they can run both competitions at the same time, the action stars on Friday 25 at 10 am and carries on through Saturday as teams are eliminated ready for Sunday finals. It’s a Noon start on Sunday 27 for the grand finals of this prestigious event that has been held in Cuenca, Coruña and Madrid.
Innovation Forum, Santa Cruz, 24 & 25 March

Tenerife is always ready to encourage new business ideas and as a focal point for this it is hosting the Innovation Forum on 24 & 25 March at the Recinto Ferial in Santa Cruz. Tenerife Cabildo President Ricardo Melchior, a noted leader on ground breaking island projects like ITER, will open the conference. Other leading statesmen and business people will be in attendance such as the rector of the University of La Laguna, Eduardo Domenech, and the Santa Cruz councillor of New Technologies, Jose Alberto Diaz Estebanez. By taking this lead Tenerife hopes to encourage the next generation of young entrepreneurs and business people.
Tenerife Moda New Fashions At Santa Cruz Wedding Fair

The top Tenerife Moda designers will be showing off their new collections at the Feboda Wedding Fair at the Recinto Ferial, Santa Cruz from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 March. Wedding fashion will dominate the event but it’s about style in general and Tenerife Moda will feature sporting, urban, and even childrens clothes as well as make up and hair.
The show opens to the public from 1 pm to 9 pm on Friday 25 March and then 11 am to 9 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Childrens clothes will be modelled on Saturday from 11 am including sports and swim wear. The day continues with womens clothes including larger sizes from 38 to 46 as part of the Morena Mia collection. Later on Saturday sports wear will get the spotlight including clothes from Pi 3.14 and VTL – the mens casual and sporting range co founded by former CD Tenerife player Vitolo.
There will be much more from Tenerife Moda throughout the day on Sunday as well, and those planning for weddings will be able to pick up plenty of ideas.
Dulce Pontes In Concert, La Orotava, 31 March

Internationally acclaimed Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes brings her versatile range to the Auditorio Teobaldo Power in La Orotava as part of the Festival Musitematico season. Born in a small village just outside Lisbon, Dolce learned the traditional local style of Fado music but gathered influences from pop, rock and classical music. Over the years Dulce has performed across the world and worked with the leading musical talents from many countries and musical styles.

The Canaries A Volcanic Window In The Atlantic, 15 to 17 March

World news is delivering graphic film of the power of nature, these presentations at Los Cristianos Cultural Centre focus on the potentially destructive power of volcanoes and how to prepare for the unlikely event of an eruption. We are very fortunate in Tenerife to have some of the leading experts in the field of volcanology. INVOLCAN (the Canarian institute of volcanology) has been set up by the Cabildo (Tenerife government) to ensure that emergency measures and responses are put in place.
Each evening at 7 pm a multi media presentation will explain different aspects of volcanic risk. On Tuesday 15 it is the film Comprendiendo los Peligros Volcanicos (Understanding Volcanic Dangers) , on Wednesday 16 March we have the film Reduciendo el Riesgo Volcanico (Reducing The Volcanic Risk) and on Thursday 17 March there will be a presentation about the volcanic risk in the Canaries.
New Information Touch Screens At Tenerife North Airport

As part of the Tenerife Digital project, new tactile information screens are now in action at Los Rodeos, Tenerife North airport. This is just the latest stage in a commitment to upgrade all tourist information in Tenerife to be as modern and user friendly as possible.
Future developments will include more interactive screens at Reina Sofia, Tenerife South airport as well as a giant video wall that can give up to date information and show images of places of interest around the island.

Cabildo Cycling Grand Prix Starts Sun 13 March In Granadilla

With 8 gruelling rounds the Cabildo Cycling Grand Prix will be an exciting spectacle with the top Spanish riders competing in the Elite under 23, Master under 30, Master under 40, and Junior and Cadet categories. The series winner will be decided on points gained throughout the rounds.
It all starts at Granadilla on Sunday 13 March, with further rounds at Arafo – 17 April, El Rosario – 7 & 8 May, La Orotava – 5 June, La Perdoma – 26 June, La Orotava again – 3 July, Los Silos – 6 & 7 August, and finally a big finish between San Miguel and Candelaria on 11 September.
Berber & Ancient Egypt Exhibits Join The Museum Of Nature & Man

New display halls at the Museo de la Naturaleza y El Hombre (Museum of Nature and Man) in Santa Cruz have joined the wealth of historical exhibits open to the public. The Berber ceramics from a private collection will be joined by some rare Egyptian vases belonging to the Santa Cruz council.
The ceramics include 36 pieces, some made by hand and some fashioned from primitive potters wheels. The Egyptian collection was housed at the Public Museum of Liverpool until an art exchange in 1908 brought them to our shores. Both sets of exhibits give a unique insight into the past and further boost the attractions at the museum situated in Calle Fuente Morales, part way between the bus station and Plaza de España. the museum opens daily from Monday to Sunday 9 am to 7 pm, closed Mondays.
