Sweet Potatoes In Tegueste, The First Bite Of 12 Cultural Feasts
The Farmers Market in Tegueste is the place to be on Sunday 22 August for the first of 12 monthly showcases for traditional Canarian foods in 12 different Tenerife municipalities. La Batada the sweet potato, will be the star of this cooking show from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm as a local chef shows the many ways this local delicacy can be enjoyed. Local wines will add to the tasting experience.
This is the centrepiece of the first Muestra Gastronomica being organised by the Tenerife Tourist Board, this months promotion will run from 16 to 31 August as 16 local bars and restaurants from this Village In The Vineyards each offer a different dish featuring the sweet potato. They may be a starter, main course or dessert, it is a versatile potato and will surprise and delight you.
Plans are already underway for the second of these monthly food events, this time in Santiago del Teide from 13 to 26 September with garlic the star ingredient. Whats On Tenerife will have more details nearer the time. While you are planning your diary, the nearby village of Tejina will be holding the annual Corazones de Tejina from 29 to 31 August. Maybe with a little forward planning you could combine a trip to both Tejina and Tegueste.

A History Of Canarian Wrestling – Museum of History & Anthropology

One of the finest local sporting traditions, Canarian Wrestling has a long and popular history. Now at the Museum of History & Anthropology at Casa de Carta, La Laguna you can view a slice of history through the Luchas Rosario club.
Until mid September this club, founded in 1943, will illustrate the sports history and some of the great sporting champions it has produced. To the uninitiated it’s a more refined form of sumo that takes place in a sand circle, usually in a terrero building. Not just about brute strength, it involves skill and tactics as two opponents try to outwit each other.
The museum in Carretera Tacoronte is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 7pm.
