A concert under the baton of OST musical director Lu Jia, with piano solos from Arcadi Volodos. The Russian painist from Leningrad, studied at the Reina Sofia music school in Madrid and is noted for his performances of Rachmaninoff and Liszt.

Patti Smith – Written Portrait May 22- Sept 6

Still best known for her music and her 1978 hit “Because The Night” which she co-wrote with Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith was a leading light in the New York punk scene.
Patti is also a renowned poet, and artist, and in this exhibition there is a mix of paintings and black and white photos.

It’s nice to see such a wide range of events passing through Tenerife Espacio de Artes (TEA) in Santa Cruz. I’ve been there 3 times and really enjoyed it, I’m no art expert but some of the paintings are magnificent. There is a fine collection of work by Oscar Dominguez, Tenerife’s most famous artist, good to see him recognised properly in the land of his birth.

The building itself is worth seeing, a very bold and interesting design, the library is a wonderful place to take a break and catch up with local papers and magazines, when the sun shines down through the elegant glass light fittings, it adds a magical quality to the building.
I’ve yet to see any of the classic films shown at TEA, so that will be one of my next reasons for popping in.

Rod Stewart concert, FREE tickets for Tenerife

Barely a month to go until living legend Rod Stewart strides out on stage at Golf Costa Adeje on Saturday May 16 at 9pm. Once a rocker, always a rocker (I remember him in The Faces, many years ago) but Rod has endured by re-inventing his appeal, in recent years he has added a new audience with his Great American Songbook collections of classic hits delivered in his own distinctive voice.
Sun Live Festival gave Tenerife Sir Elton John in concert, also at Golf Costa Adeje in January 2008 in front of over 20,000 people. Tickets range from 50 euros to the Diamond VIP rate of 375 euros but What’s On Tenerife are offering FREE tickets to the show of the year. This weekend Fri (April 17) Sat (18) and Sun (19) you can see Somers Town FREE in the TEA cinema. It is in English with Spanish sub titles, and the latest from Shane Meadows, the director of skinhead classic This Is England, it’s a comedy drama about runaways, set around KIngs Cross station. Enjoy
